Filming for the third installment of FX’s true crime anthology American Crime Story is underway and already Entertainment Weekly is reporting two developments. Max Greenfield (New Girl) is now pegged as member of the cast, revealed by executive producer and director Ryan Murphy in an Instagram post earlier today. You can view the post here.
The photo features Greenfield alongside Darren Criss (Glee) decked out in full Miami fashion. The caption also brings some new information to light.

The new title is a bit of a mouthful, but it also hints at how the new season might go down. The People vs OJ Simpson focused on the trial of the century rather than the physical killing of Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Due to the nature of the third edition’s crime, that would be far more difficult. If The People vs OJ Simpson was about a trial (as the title suggests), The Assassination of Gianni Versace might deal with the criminal act or ensuing fallout.
Versace was killed in 1997 by serial killer Andrew Cunanan who committed suicide prior to being captured by authorities. Therefore, a trial is out of the question. Since Criss will be portraying Cunanan, viewers could experience a lead up to the murder and subsequent suicide which focuses on the motivation for the killing. Though many theories have been posited for why Versace was killed at his Miami home, nothing has ever been set in stone.
Greenfield joins Criss, Penelope Cruz (Blow), Edgar Ramirez (The Girl on the Train), and Ricky Martin in the third installment of American Crime Story. Though the second season, revolving around Hurricane Katrina, has yet to be aired execs behind the series plan for the break between the two seasons to be short.
