New Trailer Released for ‘Bridgerton’ Prequel Spinoff ‘Queen Charlotte’

The royal event of the season is almost upon us.  According to Deadline, Netflix released the trailer for the long-awaited Bridgerton prequel spinoff Queen Charlotte. The trailer revealed the drama, love, and frustration that awaits the show’s fans. The spinoff will premiere on May 4, coincidentally the day of another big royal event, and will consist of six dramatic episodes. 

According to Deadline, the prequel will follow young Queen Charlotte, played by India Amarteifio (Evermoor, The Midwich Cuckoos), as she rises to power. The show will focus on Charlotte’s marriage to King George, played by Corey Mylchreest (The Sandman), and how their loving relationship sparked a shift in society that created the world of the Ton that the characters in Bridgerton get to enjoy.

The trailer also shows the audience an in-depth look at the life of a young Queen Charlotte as she struggles under the pressure and the difficulty of asserting herself as a queen and wife to a man trying to romance her while he hides his deepest secrets from her. 

Apart from the young couple, the show’s cast also includes the older versions of Queen Charlotte, played by Golda Rosheuvel (Dune, Death in Paradise), and King George, played by James Fleet (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Sense and Sensibility). Adjoa Andoh (The Witcher, Thunderbirds Are Go) will reprise her role as Lady Agatha Danbury and her younger version will be played by Arsema Thomas (Redeeming Love, One Touch). Ruth Gemmel (Home Fires, Cliffs of Freedom) is also back as Lady Violet Bridgerton and her younger version, Violet Ledger, will be portrayed by Connie Jenkins-Greig (Solitary, The Take Down). Hugh Sachs (Andor, Benidorm) is back playing Brimsley, Queen Charlotte’s confidant, and his younger version is being played by Sam Clemmett (The War Below, Cherry). Other actors involved in the series include Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, Gangs of London) as Princess Augusta; Freddie Dennis (The Nevers) as Reynolds; Richard Cunningham (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Living) as Lord Bute; Tunji Kasim (Nancy Drew, The Good Liar) as Adolphus; Keir Charles (Shadow and Bone, Back to Life) as Lord Ledger and Cyril Nri (The Cipher, Trouble in Mind) as Lord Danbury. 

According to Entertainment Weekly, Shonda Rhimes (Scandal, Inventing Anna) will serve as a writer and showrunner for Queen Charlotte. Rhimes also serves as an executive producer alongside Tom Verica (Scandal, Bridgerton) and Betsy Beers (Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19). 

Queen Charlotte will premiere on May 4 on Netflix. Both seasons of Bridgerton are available to stream on Netflix. Don’t forget to watch the trailer below.
