Star Trek: Picard season three is just around the corner and with it comes new traditional Star Trek sound according to ComicBook. As many of the upcoming season’s actions happen aboard the USS Titan-A, a ship named after William Ryker’s first in command, a new but familiar composed sound has been created for the vessel. Stephen Barton (I, Robot, Niko and the Sword of Light) will be replacing Jeff Russo (Fargo, The Umbrella Academy) as the composer in the new season and will provide a more traditional sound that many Star Trek fans are more familiar with. Season three showrunner Terry Matalas (12 Monkeys, MacGyver) has posted a small preview of the soundtrack on his official Instagram account.

Star Trek: Picard premiered on January 23, 2020, and is set in 2399 which is 20 years after the events in Star Trek: Nemesis. The third and final season of the series follows Jean-Luc Picard played by Patric Stewart (Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness) as he is reunited with the former command crew of the USS Enterprise. The series also stars Alison Phil (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Michelle Hurd (Blindspot), Santiago Cabrera (Big Little Lies), Jeri Ryan(Star Trek: Voyager), Evan Evagora (Fantasy Island), and many more.
According to ComicBook, Matalas claims that he brought Barton aboard for the final season because, “If we were going to say this is the last Star Trek: The Next Generation film, or 10 of the last Star Trek: The Next Generation movies because all the episodes are very different then it needed to sound like that, too”. He goes on to admit that this will require Barton help for the season. As the story grows so will the score which Matalas also states features help from Frederik Wiedmann (The Dragon Prince, Big Nate) who is also a brilliant composer.
Star Trek: Picard’s third and final season premieres on February 16th on Paramount+.
