Deadline has reported that Apple TV has greenlit a series based on author Mikita Brottman’s critically acclaimed book Guilty Creatures: Sex, God, and Murder in Tallahassee, Florida. The series will reportedly star Emmy-winning actress Julia Garner (Inventing Anna, Ozark), who will also act as executive producer of the series alongside fellow EP and showrunner Stuart Zicherman (The Affair, The Shrink Next Door) and director Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella).
Developed through the ITV Studios partner Tomorrow Studios’ first-look deals with Alma Margo (under Garner) and Fortunate Jack Productions (associated with Gillespie), Deadline listed fellow series EPs as; Tomorrow Studios’ Becky Clements (One Piece, Snowpiercer), Marty Adelstein (Hanna, The Experiment), Alissa Bachner (The Better Sister, Detroit 1-8-7); Fortunate Jack Productions’ Annie Marter (The Guilty, Nobody) and director Gillespie; with the series’s adaptor Sarah DeLappe (Bodies Bodies Bodies, the Wolves) working with Zicherman.
Via Deadline, the true crime series takes place in the Florida panhandle amidst torrid sex and murder in the seedy underground. A brief synopsis notes that “the series delves into the psyche of a torrid romance and subsequent act of murder between two young, adulterous but God-fearing lovers, unraveling their complex lives and the emotional toll of living as killers for 18 years.”
