Once again, the Amazon action series Jack Ryan starring John Krasinski will be changing showrunners for its newest season. Vaun Wilmott, formerly of Star Trek: Discovery, will be taking over the showrunner role from the series’ former showrunner Paul Scheuring.
This isn’t the first time the Jack Ryan series has changed showrunners. Scheuring, also the creator of the series Prison Break, took over the showrunner position for season 2 after the original series creator Carlton Cuse stepped down from the series. Cuse reportedly left the Amazon series to develop shows for Disney+, and is also currently working on the production of the new Locke and Key series on Netflix. As for Scheuring, the creator decided to step down from the Jack Ryan series after “discovering he wasn’t good fit” for the show, and is now planning on attending graduate school.
Wilmott will be taking over the showrunner position after serving as Scheuring’s second in command for the past season. He will also be executive producing alongside Krasinski, and the two are currently working on scripts for the third season.
Jack Ryan, officially titled Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, is a spy thriller series that takes place in the fictional universe created by American novelist Tom Clancy, referred to as the “Ryanverse.” The story follows the titular Dr. Jack Ryan, a Marine veteran and analyst for the CIA who is forced out of his desk job and thrown back into the field for a new series of missions. At the time of the series’ release, executive producer and director Daniel Sackheim stated that Krasinski’s performance was inspired by old Harrison Ford films. ““What was so great about the Harrison Ford movies was that they were about an everyman hero,” Sackheim stated. “He was a guy who wasn’t a superhero. He was heroic, but he was vulnerable. He wasn’t afraid to be scared.”
Jack Ryan is confirmed for a third season, though no trailer has been released yet. The season is estimated to premiere in December 2020, but an official release date has not yet been announced.
