James Gunn (Director, Guardians of The Galaxy) has recently posted new set photos on his twitter for his upcoming Peacemaker series, according to ComicBook. Peacemaker will be an HBO Max spinoff series of the titular character who will be making his debut in the next suicide squad movie titled The Suicide Squad. Both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker will be set within the same universe and both projects are directed by Gunn. John Cena (Agent Burns, Bumblebee) is playing the role of Peacemaker and he is quoted in The Suicide Squad trailer as likening Peacemaker to a “douchey Captain America.” Check out the images below to see a sneak peek of Peacemaker:
From the look of the set, fans have speculated that they are outside of Peacemaker’s trailer. Sporting the American flag on the outside of his home, this would line up with Peacemaker’s modus operandi as he was once a proud peace envoy for the U.S. Peacemaker was created in 1966 by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette. His story offers a unique take on becoming an anti-hero. At first, Peacemaker starts out as a hero who uses non-lethal methods to subdue criminals but after realizing that his non-lethal tactics were born from his guilt of having a Nazi commander as a father, he switches things up a little. It’s also important to note that Peacemaker’s helmet houses the souls of all the people he failed to save and drive him crazy with guilt.
Fans will be excited to see how Gunn approaches this character and if he will implement the voices in Peacemaker’s head. With an already impressive cast, the series has potential to be something special for DC fans. Aside from Cena, the cast includes Steve Agee (New Girl, Outside Dave), Danielle Brooks (Orange is The New Black, Tasty) and Chris Conrad (Perpetual Grace, New Leaf) the Peacemaker series will have a host of established talent.
