Netflix has released a teaser trailer for their historically based crime thriller Narcos featuring lead actor Wagner Mauro in character as the ruthless Pablo Escobar. The trailer features Moura slowly walking out of the shadows into full view as he glares directly into the camera with a threatening intensity, all while the sounds of the provocative title song serenades the viewer. The video highlights 3 dates of significance, December 1, 1949, the year Pablo Escobar was born, December 2, 1993, the year Pablo Escobar was killed, and September 2, 2016, the date of the premier of Season 2.
Season 2 of Narcos was original confirmed on September 3, 2015 after the official twitter for the show posted a teaser with the words “season 2” flashing through an X-rayed suitcase.
Season 1 first hit Netflix on August 28, 2015 and quickly garnered audiences and critics attention thanks to its gritty subject matter and violent yet seductive style. The season followed two DEA agents, played by Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal, as they worked to take down the growing threat that was the Medellin Cartel and its Leader Pablo Escobar. The season began with the rise of Escobar from big time smuggler to the biggest and most fearsome drug lord in Columbia and ended with Escobar still on the run from the DEA. Now, new details have been revealed on the plot for season 2 and whether Escobar will meet his inevitable end before its conclusion.
In an interview on the Netflix original talk show Chelsea, Wagner Moura confirmed that this season would feature the death of Pablo Escobar. Though somewhat within the realm of spoilers, the news only confirms what historically occurred in regards to the real life Pablo Escobar and the events that occurred in Columbia. Now fans can eagerly await how this dramatic and violent tale comes to an end, as well as mourn the loss of the actor who put on a stunning performance and brought a new level of depth to such a ghastly figure in history.
Along with the return of Moura, Holbrook, and Pascal, the show has added Eric Lange to the cast who will play the role of a special CIA agent in Medellin, as reported by Deadline. Lange is notable for his roles as Mr. Sikowitz in the Nickelodeon show Victorious and as Kennith Hastings in the FX crime drama The Bridge.
