Although the release of House of the Dragon had been pushed back as mxdwn has previously reported, fans can rest assured that production of the eight-part series has now begun in the United Kingdom. HBO has also released the lineup of new cast members.
Sons of Anarchy fans may be excited to find that Tommy Flanagan (Gladiator, Braveheart) has joined the cast as Ser Roderick Dustin. Also announced is the addition of actor and comedian Daniel Fogler (Balls of Fury, Good Luck Chuck), who many recognize as Jacob Kowalski in Fantastic Beasts. He will be portraying the role of Ser Torrehn. As previously announced, James Norton (Mr. Jones, Rogue Agent) will also be returning as Ormund Hightower.
As reported by mxdwn, season three will pick up right where season two left off. Additionally, another spin-off is set to air sometime this year. According to MSN, A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, is much more light-hearted adventure based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. The storyline takes place between the events of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragons. Another spinoff based on the Jon Snow character was teased by Kit Harington (Game of Thrones, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D) himself, only to be struck down for lack of worthy story. Although leaving hopes of this spinoff alive, HBO Chief Casey Bloys says, “maybe we will try again.” This was reported late last year by Deadline.
Most notable actors who are also returning for the third season are non-binary English actor Emma D’ Arcy (Wanderlust, Truth Seekers) and Northampton-born Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown). Co-creators Ryan Condal (Colony, Rampage) and George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones, Wildcards) will also be taking the helm.
The trailer released by MAX features a dramatic action packed setting with plenty of amazing CGI. With the rise of AI tools for video production, we can expect to see lots more scenes featuring the magnificent dragons. House of the Dragons has been rescheduled to be released in 2026 and will premiere on MAX.
