Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) is heading back to school. The actress is set to star in the upcoming Netflix comedy The Chair, which is created by David Benioff (producer, Game of Thrones) and D.B. Weiss (producer, Game of Thrones), creators of Game of Thrones, via TVLine.
The Chair is set to premiere on Netflix starting August 27. Oh stars as Ji-Yoon Kim, the first female and woman of color head of the English department at Pembrooke Academy. According to TVLine, the series will consist of six episodes, all of which are expected to drop at the same time, each being half an hour long.
Via TVLine, The Chair was created by Benioff’s wife, Amanda Peet (A Lot Like Love), who additionally co-wrote the series. Prior to the series, Peet has no television credits, but has written two plays, The Commons of Pensacola and Our Very Own Carlin McCullough.
Along with the announcement of the series premiere date, Netflix released a fake news clipping announcing the hiring of Kim, Oh’s fictional character. The clipping is from the Pembroke Daily, Pembroke Academy’s school newspaper, and hints at the satirical tone of the show.
In addition to Oh, Jay Duplass (Transparent) is set to co-star in the series, as well as Holland Taylor (Legally Blonde), Nina Mensah (The Kind of Staten Island), Bob Balaban (Close Encounters of the Third Kind), David Morse (The Hurt Locker), and Everly Carganilla (Yes Day). According to TVLine, the series will be a reunion for Peet and Duplass, who worked together on two seasons of HBO’s Togetherness.
