Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo: Origins has officially completed production on its first season. The series is expected to arrive on the streamer worldwide in 2027, though Netflix has yet to announce a specific premiere date, Deadline reported.
The series reimagines the animated mother series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, created by Hanna-Barbera.
The story follows Shaggy, played by Tanner Hagen (Xander, Be Careful What You Say), and Daphne, played by McKenna Grace (Regretting You, Young Sheldon), as they spend their last summer at camp before landing in the middle of a mysterious case. The two teens get wrapped up in a haunting murder mystery involving an abandoned Great Dane puppy as a witness.
They band together with Velma, played by Abby Ryder Fortson (Carousel, Spirits in the Sky), a science-minded local, and Freddy, played by Maxwell Jenkins (The Waddles, Elsbeth), an odd but charismatic new teen in town. The team works together with the puppy, Scooby, to uncover the truth behind a case. However, in their endeavors, they are pulled into terrifying nightmares that threaten to expose each of their secrets.
This is the first time in the history of the franchise that a Great Dane will play a live-action portrayal of Scooby-Doo.
The cast for the upcoming series will include Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird, Richard Jewell), Rusty Schwimmer (The Dirk Diggler Story, The Perfect Storm), Peter Macon (The Orville, Kingdom of Planet of the Apes), Jona Xiao (Eyes of Wakanda, Hightown), Dani Deetté (Last Seen Alive, On Swift Horses), Elysée Sanvillé (72 Hours, ARTY: Daydreams), Alex Isles (Bellybutton, Chowchilla), Avery Kristen Pohl (Scarlet’s Witch, Sound of My Voice), Pamela Mitchell (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, FBI: Most Wanted), Ross Kimball (Mythic Quest, Queenpins), Sara Gilbert (The Conners, Roseanne), Wynn Everett (Chad Powers, Cape Fear), Sauriyan Sapkota (The Life of Chuck, Pa), Bruce McGill (Lioness, Black Zone), André Benjamin (White Noice, Showing Up) and Cathy Moriarity (Art Time, Will Trent).
Josh Appelbaum (From, Citadel) and Scott Rosenberg (From, Citadel) serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Scooby-Doo: Origins is produced by Warner Bros. Television Studios.
