Netflix’s ‘Never Have I Ever’ Receives Third Season Renewal

Fans of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever should prepare for more love triangles, as the show has officially received a third season renewal, according to The Hollywood ReporterThe young adult-themed comedy from Mindy Kaling (The Office) and Lang Fisher (Honest) premiered on the streamer in April 2020, with its second season having only premiered one month ago.

An episode count or release date for the show inspired by Kaling’s adolescence has not yet been decided, however, if it follows suit with its previous two seasons, Never Have I Ever will most likely release ten episodes for its third season. “We are so grateful to Netflix and Universal Television for letting us continue to tell this story, and to the fans around the world who clamored to see more of this badly behaved Indian teenager,” Kaling and Fisher said in a joint statement Thursday, according to The Hollywood Reporter

The show stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan in her debut role alongside Darren Barnet (Love Hard) and Jaren Lewison (Tag). It follows a first-generation Indian-American teenager, Devi Vishwakumar, played by Ramakrishnan, as she hopes to recover from a traumatic year by improving her social status within her predominantly white Los Angeles high school by getting herself and her friends boyfriends. The second season of the show did not end on as much of a cliffhanger as its first, with Devi seemingly finding her way out of a complex love triangle with Paxton, played by Barnet, and Ben, played by Lewison. However, things turn complicated when Ben realizes her true feelings for Devi one minute too late.

Season two of Never Have I Ever was released July 15 and received a 93 percent rating among critics and an 86 percent score among viewers.

“I don’t know how long it will go. I’m happy to work on it as long as they’ll pay me. I love making it. I do think [Devi’s] got very different relationships with these two guys and you could see her going in either direction,” Fisher said. “So much of it depends on what the rest of the stories are that we want to tell. With teen shows, everyone is 45 and you have to graduate from high school. I do think the love triangle will be significant for the run of the show,” via The Hollywood Reporter
