Netflix’s ‘Lord of the Flies’ TV Adaptation Releases Teasers

Netflix’s upcoming Lord of the Flies television series adaptation — also known as The Society– is building up more suspense these last few months, with the release of new photos from the series in anticipation of its confirmed May release. Not to be confused with the other female-centric remake of William Golding’s work.

The new series is set to chart its own territory by keeping its core cast of characters in their childhood New England town. With the official synopsis reading: due to mysterious circumstances, a group of teenagers (male and female) are transported to a replica of their town where none of their parents exist.

While, struggling to uncover how they got there, each teen attempts to form alliances for better or worse, in order to survive. No longer are the carefree days of fun and recklessness; now each teen must figure out how to handle the everyday challenges of “adult” life.

Published in 1954, Golding’s Lord of the Flies followed the story of a group of young teenage boys after a tragic plane crash, who attempt to form their own society on an island in the Pacific Ocean. As time goes on and reality sets in, the boys slowly turn on each other in very animalistic ways. Since its publication, the novel won the 1954 Nobel Prize for literature and has been adapted into myriad of different reenactments over the years.

The series will be executive produced and directed by Mark Webb (Amazing Spider-Man, 500 Days of Summer, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and has received a 10-episode order from the streaming giant without an exact date just yet. Although the original Lord of the Flies offered an undeniably cynical take on humanity, audiences can expect Webb the delve deeper than his previous works when dealing with the human psyche.
