Netflix’s ‘Black Mirror’ Teases A Spinoff Episode For Season Seven Where Fan-Favorite Episode ‘USS Callister’ Left Off

Black Mirror, the horror Netflix series, has released new information about the upcoming episodes which will be an official continuation of fan-favorite episode named “USS Callister,” ComicBook.com reports. The series was renewed by the streamer last year, and there is still no official information as to when the series will be released, but it’s expected to be released sometime in 2025.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the news from a teaser seen at the Next on Netflix event, as they reported that ‘USS Callister’ will be back and “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.”

Black Mirror‘s first two seasons, according to ComicBook.com, were aired in the UK on Channel Four. Netflix then acquired the rights to the series after its third season was announced. The first two seasons featured different actors, such as Domhnall Gleeson (About Time, Peter Rabbit, Ex Machina), Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter, Cinderella, The Avengers), Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who, One Night, Time), and Daniel Kaluuya (The Kitchen, Judas and the Black Messiah, Get Out). Since its arrival to Netflix, the series has added more popular actors to its cast, including Bryce Dallas Howard (Argylle, Gold, 50/50), Jon Hamm (Mean Girls, Mad Men, Baby Driver), Benedict Wong (Deadly Class, Doctor Strange, Sunshine), Wyatt Russell (Night Swim, 22 Jump Street, Overlord), Letitia Wright (Surrounded, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Silent Twins), Miley Cyrus (LOL, The Last Song, Hannah Montana), Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Twisted Metal, The Banker), and Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie, Alice & Jack, Mandy).

To break fan expectations of the series is something that Charlie Brooker (Cunk on Earth, Cunk on Britain, Arkangel), creator of the series, wants to do. He explained that he has done this previously with the sixth season last year as he stated in the press release for that season.

“With this series, I wanted to throw out some of the core assumptions of what a Black Mirror episode is,” Brooker explained, via ComicBook.com. “When we started doing the show, there weren’t many dystopian sci-fi shows around. These days, you can’t hurl smartphone across a room without hitting three dystopian sci-fi shows. With Season six, there has been a conscious effort to rip up the rule book, keep it unpredictable for viewers, and maybe expand its remit. In some ways, this season starts very traditional Black Mirror and gets weirder as the series goes along. There are episodes this season that I am intrigued to see how the audience reacts to, because we have done things that we have never done before.”

Black Mirror‘s complete six seasons are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
