On Tuesday, Netflix released the trailer for V Wars, a vampire drama series that will be hitting the streaming giant on December 5th. The show will be starring Ian Somerhalder who’s no stranger to dabbling in the world of vampires having starred for years in The Vampire Diaries, the hit CW show that ran for eight seasons. Comicbook.com has reported that the series will be about a mysterious new disease that turns people into vampire like creatures, with Ian Somerhalder starring as scientist Dr. Luther Swann. The disease hits Luther close to him when a friend of his is suddenly infected by the virus, and as it spreads Swann attempts to understand the source of this new disease in an attempt to save humanity. Meanwhile, Fayne, who will be played by Arrow’s Adrian Holmes, becomes the leader of this new race of vampires. The show will also be starring Smallville’s former Supergirl Lara Vandervoot, Peter Outerbridge and Kyle Breitkopf.
V Wars is based on a graphic novel produced by IDW entertainment and written by New York Times best selling author Jonathan Marberry. The first season will be comprised of 10 episodes, with William Laurin and Glenn Davis spearheading the program as showrunners. IDW Entertainment will also have a hand in developing the show as its president, David Ozer, and its CEO Ted Adams, will be executive producing the show alongside Marada Pictures’ James Gibb.
“We could not have dreamed of a better choice than Ian Somerhalder to bring his keen understanding of this genre from his years of starring in The Vampire Diaries to lead the cast of V Wars as Dr. Luther Swann and to be a creative force in this series, as well as to serve as a director this season.” Ozer said. “We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring the multifaceted world that Jonathan Marberry created to audiences worldwide.”
