Tina Fey (Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls) will be starring, co-creating and executively producing a brand-new series for Netflix entitled The Four Seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The network has ordered this project, adapted from the 1981 comedy-romance movie of the same name. Other stars on the show will be Fey’s co-stars from 30 Rock, Tracey Wigfield (The Mindy Project, Great News), and Lang Fisher (Never Have I Ever, Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
Universal TV, which is also the home of Fey’s company Little Stranger, is set to produce The Four Seasons. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has won bidding war for the series; the show was considered a “hot property” after the end of the writers’ and actors’ strikes last fall.
Actor Alan Alda (M*A*S*H, Marriage Story) starred, wrote and directed The Four Seasons movie, which features three couples who vacation as a group each season. The plot takes a turn when one of the couples breaks up, and the man in that relationship brings a younger woman on future trips. Other stars in the film were Carol Burnett (Annie, Noises Off…), Rita Moreno (West Side Story, The King and I), Len Cariou (About Schmidt, Blue Bloods), Jack Weston (Dirty Dancing, Cactus Flower), Bess Armstrong (Jaws 3-D, My So-Called Life) and Sandy Dennis (The Out of Towners, Up the Down Staircase).
Producers on the series will be Alda himself, who had a short recurring role in 30 Rock, and Marissa Bregman (American Dream), the daughter of film producer Martin Bergman (Dog Day Afternoon, Sea of Love).
The Four Seasons will be Fey’s first leading role in a series in over 10 years since 30 Rock wrapped in 2013. Yet, she has held several minor roles over the years, such as a recurring role in Only Murders in the Building, portraying Cindy Canning, as well as roles in the feature films Maggie Moore(s) and A Haunting in Venice.
The streaming service and Fey have an extensive history together, including Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, was picked up by Netflix after being turned down by NBC, and the animated comedy series Mulligan.
Fey, Wigfield and Fisher will take on the executive producer roles on the series alongside Eric Gurian (Busy Tonight, Sisters), David Miner (The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Jeff Richmond (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Mean Girls).
