According to Screenrant, Cobra Kai star Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid) teases some information about the future of the series after season six. Recently this year, it was announced that Cobra Kai would be ending after season six which generated a mixed response. During an interview with 20 Questions: On Deadline podcast, Macchio was asked what is next to come from the franchise. He gave a response reflecting on the success of the series and its time on Netflix. After the conversation, the actor seems to hint at there being more of the series after season six.
Macchio said, ‘’Characters or some of the OG characters that would make sense in a story? Look what Better Call Saul did out of Breaking Bad. Two totally different feels and yet both successful.’’
He continued, ‘’I thought decades ago, I would never… be Daniel LaRusso. And now it’s richer and deeper than ever, and I can’t imagine this being the end of that. And if it is, then it’s time. But I think, conceptually, what Cobra Kai the amount of OG characters that have been brought back and every actor who has come back from the original franchise literally knocked it out of the park. The actors, everyone, comes in with such a pride that they were part of that. You know, part of that legacy. Even the kids in our show really don’t take it for granted. I’m really proud of them for not being in that entitled generation. They feel like they’re walking on hallowed ground and they do a great job of carrying the torch forward.”
He then said, ‘’But conceptually. The rivalries. Who’s going to prevail? How deep in the valley can you possibly go and still keep that rivalry going in a fresh, original way? I think it’s smart. So many shows are given the axe, and you look at Netflix… I mean, how many shows on Netflix go to six seasons? And, mind you, we came in late. Netflix is often you know, cut shows off before six seasons for whatever the reason. You don’t want to overstay your welcome. So I think this is a good point. But I think we will see more characters and other content, whether LaRusso comes in and out of any of those… we’ll, you know, we’ll talk next time on that.’’
Cobra Kai is currently available to stream on Netflix.
