Netflix Renews ‘Space Force’ for Second Season

The Netflix original series Space Force has been renewed for a second season on the streaming service platform, according to Deadline. The first season premiered in spring 2020 and consisted of ten episodes. The comedy streaming series marked a return for Steve Carell (Foxcatcher, The Big Short) to television since his time as the beloved character Michael Scott on NBC’s The Office. Carell partnered with Greg Daniels (The Simpsons), who helped develop The Office for television, in creating Space Force. The series features Daniels as one of the co-showrunners along with Norm Hiscock (Parks & Recreation) in addition to receiving executive producing help from Carell, Howard Klein (King of the Hill, The Office), Hiscock, and Daniels. 

Space Force centers on the trials and tribulations of a recently established titular new branch of the armed forces while also portraying itself as a workplace comedy with the members a part of the branch. Carell stars as General Mark Naird, who gets tasked with taking on the role of Chief of Space Operations for the newly formed armed branch. Additionally, the cast also features the likes of Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation, House of Lies), Diana Silvers (Ma, Booksmart), Tawny Newsome (Brockmire, Star Trek: Lower Decks), Jimmy O Yang (Silicon Valley), and John Malkovich (Burn After Reading, Rounders). 

Currently, the comedy series expects to begin its second season production in 2021. However, there is no exact premiere date expected for the upcoming season. For interested television fans, check out the season one trailer below:
