Netflix has just released a trailer for its new comedy special Death of 2020, according to Deadline. The makers of Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker and Anabelle Jones, are shining a new light on the events of 2020 with a humorous touch. With all that has transpired during the past year, everything from treacherous wildfires to the worldwide spread of a contagious virus known to us simply as COVID-19, 2020 has been a relentless year to say the least. Netflix fires back at the misfortune we’ve all experienced with life’s greatest medicine, a little spoonful of comedy.
An all-star cast accompanies this special with talent such as Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu, Star Wars: The Revenge of The Sith), Hugh Grant (Fletcher, The Gentlemen), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe, Friends) and Kumail Nanjiani (Kumail, The Big Sick.) Suffice to say this special will be overflowing with established comedic talent and experienced producers, Black Mirror producers Charlie Brooker and Anabelle Jones are at the helm of this project. Check out the trailer below for a sneak peak at what’s in store for viewers.
Saturday Night Live’s Leslie Jones sums up the year with her line near the end of the trailer, “I’d say it was a train wreck and a shit show, but that would be unfair to trains and shit.” Grant’s character will be a historian who’s being interviewed about the infamous events in 2020. “Grant has already revealed that he will play a “repellent” historian (who has more than a passing resemblance to David Starkey),” according to Deadline. Based on the scenes in the trailer, Kudrow’s character will most likely be a conservative politician. The documentary styled special will have actual footage of 2020 and mix in fictional voices to generate humor and voice a unique outlook as a response to these events.
