According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix released a new trailer for their series 1899, a historic horror from the creators of the popular Netflix show Dark. And following its predecessor, the trailer is weird.
In June, Netflix released the first trailer for 1899, that trailer setting the scene for the show. The trailer revealed that the story will take place on an immigrant steamship bound for America. The steamer is filled with people of different nationalities that are trying to escape their old lives in the old continent. While out at sea, they discover a ship, the Prometheus, which has been missing for months. The journey takes a horrific turn when the crew decides to board Prometheus.
The second trailer, the latest to be released, expands on the universe of the series 1899 without attempting to explain what is really going on. Dark creators Bran Bo Odar (Who Am I, The Silence) and Jantje Friese (Who Am I) are the masterminds behind this new mysterious show. The trailer gives viewers a few hints to follow, including the recurring image of a black triangle, that should keep the speculation going even after the show premieres.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this new trailer gives the viewer a better look at the very diverse cast of the show. Some of the actors and actresses that form part of the cast of the show are Emily Beecham (Cruella, Into the Badlands) that will be playing Maura Franklin; Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk, Barkskins); Andreas Pietschmann (Dark, Kitz) is Eyk Larsen; Miguel Bernardeau (Élite, Everything Else); Maciej Musial (Klangor, The Witcher) starring as Olek; Lucas Lynggaard Tonnesen (Borgen, The Rain); Rosalie Craig (Anatomy of a Scandal, Centaurworld) will be playing Virginia; Yann Gael (Sakho & Mangane, Loro) will star as Jérome; Mathilde Ollivier (Nona and her Daughters, Overlord) is Clémence; Isabella Wei playing Ling Yi; Gabby Wong (White Dragon, Rogue One) starring as Yuk Je; Flynn Edwards (The Snow Spider, Save the Cinema); and Alexandre Willaume (The Wheel of Time, The Last Kingdom). Part of the show is that all the actors will be speaking their native languages, which will help keep the feeling of an immigrant steamship authentic.
While the first trailer wanted to emphasize the thriller and the suspense elements of the show, this new trailer leans more into the mystery and the fantasy components. This new trailer is accompanied by Jimi Hendrix’s version of “All Along the Watchtower” which helps immerse the viewer into the story.
1899 will premiere on Netflix on November 17. Don’t forget to watch the trailer below.
