Netflix has released the first trailer for its new series The Duchess. The series stars Katherine Ryan (Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room) as Katherine in addition to serving as the creator, writer, and executive producer on the show. The Duchess is also executive produced by TV comedy veterans including Dave Becky (Master of None) and Murray Ferguson ( The End of the F***ing World). The new comedy will release its first season on September 11 via The Wrap.
The Duchess will follow Katherine portraying a version of herself struggling as a single mom in London. As she goes through obstacles while raising her daughter, Olive, she begins to ponder if it would be better to have a second child. Starting a process of self-discovery, Katherine goes on a journey trying to find the right father for this theoretical child. Landing on the father of her first child, they do not get along well nor do they necessarily like each other. While working things out with her kooky ex, she also goes through the trials and tribulations of dating and falling in love.
This is Ryan’s third collaboration with Netflix as she’s done two stand up specials with them– Katherine Ryan: In Trouble and Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room. The new series will function as a raunchy comedy in a sitcom format as it portrays the ups and downs in Katherine’s life. According to The Wrap, Ryan said in an interview with Radio Times: “The Duchess is super authentic I think to my personality, to my stage persona, because it’s a disruptive mum who’s a bad person but a good mum.”
