Something dark is headed this way. The Haunting of Bly Manor will arrive on Netflix October 9 consisting of nine episodes via Entertainment Weekly. With its first trailer released, the streaming service’s favorite haunted house is back in new form. After the success of season one, The Haunting of Hill House, monsters are still on the prowl with a different home and family to terrorize. The second season of the anthology series is coming just in time for Halloween when pumpkins are being carved, thrills are around ever corner, and ghost stories are being told.
The Haunting of Bly Manor looks to be as dark and twisted as the first season. The Bly Manor is a grand estate in 1980s England where bad things happen. The two children living there, Flora and Miles, are plagued by misfortune. Flora is portrayed by Amelie Bea Smith (Peppa Pig) and Miles is portrayed by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Flora & Ulysses). Already orphans, they meet tragedy again as their au pair dies. Replacing her is an American, Dani Clayton, who’s looking for a clean start. Cue the ominous music. While taking care of the children she becomes acquainted with the horrors living inside the home, sensing something’s not quite right within its walls. Dani is portrayed by Victoria Pedretti (You), who starred as the troubled Nell Crain in the first season of The Haunting of Hill House.
Pedretti is not the only familiar face seen in the second season. Many other members of the Crain family return playing new characters, including Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Invisible Man) and Henry Thomas (Doctor Sleep). Jackson-Cohen portrays Peter, an unpleasant man living in Bly Manor. Thomas plays the uncle of the two orphaned children.
The Haunting of Hill House, was a loose adaptation from the book of the same name written by Shirley Jackson in 1959. The Haunting of Bly Manor is an adapted work as well, taking inspiration from the 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw written by Henry James. There will also be bits and pieces from other horror works interspersed throughout the upcoming sophomore season, ensuring several flavors of terror. Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) returns as the creator and director of the show in this new iteration of scares.
As fall is just around the corner, get into the spirit by watching dolls come alive, shadows stalking children, and the scariest thing of all: 80s fashion. Watch the trailer for The Haunting of Bly Manor below:
