In response to global protests and activism in support of the Black Lives Matter movement by the Black community and its allies, Netflix has released a collection of TV shows and movies to aid viewers in better understanding the lives of Black Americans, via The Hollywood Reporter. Joined in the collection are Ava DuVernay’s (Selma) 13th and When They See Us, Justin Simien’s (Bad Hair) Dear White People, TJ Martin’s (Undefeated) LA 92, and Nadia Hallgreen’s (After Maria) Becoming, among many more films, shows, and documentaries. In addition, Netflix included Spike Lee’s (Do The Right Thing) upcoming film Da 5 Bloods which will be released on June 12.
Netflix’s launch of this collection comes soon after they endorsed their stance with the Black community via a tweet that has since accumulated over 1 million likes.
On the day of the launch, Netflix once again announced their support of the Black Lives Matter movement as well as their support of Black art and storytelling.
Netflix is among the many platforms that have voiced their support of the movement, however among the very few that have made an active step towards attempting to diminish the injustices that continue to plague Black lives each day. The collection can be reached at netflix.com/blacklivesmatter.
