Following last summer’s streaming deal, Netflix and AMC Networks have agreed to expand their partnership. Deadline reports that the Tudum streamer will add the latest seasons of Dark Winds, Interview with the Vampire, and The Walking Dead spinoffs to its platform. It will also see the additions of the two spin-offs within Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe.
Beginning September 30, the second season of Interview with the Vampire becomes available for Netflix users, along with the second seasons of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and Dead City, and the third season of Dark Winds. Deadline also lists that the second season of Mayfair Witches will also join the fray. And October’s anticipated Talamasca: The Secret Order will arrive next year.
Beyond these three franchises, Deadline reports the deal will involve more of AMC’s library. The critically acclaimed Orphan Black and its spinoff, Echoes, land on the platform along with the Giancarlo Esposito-fronted Parish, limited series This is Going to Hurt, the haunting horror of NOS4A2, and the sci-fi drama Soulmates.
According to Deadline, the initial deal was to expose viewers to these shows in hopes of drawing them to AMC and AMC+. Fortunately, it benefited both parties, generating 210M global views on Netflix, while AMC experienced “significant increases” in viewership and subscriber count. For example, the period crime drama Dark Winds received a 600% increase in viewership when AMC+ launched the third season this year.
Similar gains were reflected with the third Walking Dead spinoff, Dead City. Deadline reports that the first streams of the second season premiere saw a 700% increase after season one was available on Netflix.
“We are pleased to expand and extend our branded content licensing agreement with Netflix, with an even stronger focus on the franchises that are resonating with viewers and performing so well on Netflix,” said Kristin Dolan, AMC Networks CEO, via Deadline. “This renewal also brings some of our franchise titles, including forthcoming seasons, to Netflix subscribers in select international markets, complementing our own international reach. Our ability to produce great shows and make them available to viewers across a wide variety of platforms is driving our company forward in this changing time in media. Netflix has been an incredibly valuable partner, helping raise awareness and interest in our popular and acclaimed AMC Studios series.”
According to Deadline, the expansion will reach global markets, with current and future seasons of Dark Winds and all series in Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe streaming on Netflix for international viewers.
