Netflix Picks Up Brad Wright’s Canadian Sci-Fi Series ‘Travelers’

Filming began on Tuesday in Vancouver, Canada for Netflix’s new Sci-Fi series ‘Travelers’, from Brad Wright, co-creator of Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis and SGU Stargate Universe, Variety confirms. Netflix has ordered 12 episodes for the new show starring Eric McCormack (Perception, Will & Grace).

Nick Hurran, is set to direct the pilot which is due to air on Netflix later this year. Hurran has proven success with directing sci-fi shows as seen by his working history on sci-fi favorites Sherlock and Doctor Who.

McCormack is set to play Grant MacLaren, an FBI Special Agent from the future who is sent back in time hundreds of years to save people from making horrible mistakes and ultimately save humanity. Not alone in his objective, MacLaren is the leader of a small group of travelers from all different backgrounds. But there’s a catch; the people sent back with FBI Special Agent Grant MacLaren (McCormack), aren’t sent back as themselves but rather as people already intertwined in present day life.

These time travelers must assume the identity of the people their consciousness goes into while at the same time figuring out how to accomplish their mission. Can they balance living as strangers, complicated relationships and saving the future of humanity? Who knows! But it’ll sure make for some interesting storylines! Especially when you take into account who they were in the future and who they become in the 21st century. You can see the official logline at TVLine.com.

Joining McCormack is: Mackenzie Porter (Hell On Wheels), Patrick Gilmore (Gracepoint, SGU Stargate Universe), Jared Paul Abrahamson (Awkward.), Nesta Marlee Cooper (Heroes Reborn: Dark Matters) and Reilly Dolman (SGU Stargate Universe).

With many of the featured cast having already been in a Brad Wright series it brings to question if any other past actors might also make an appearance. Perhaps Robert Carlyle could take a break from playing Mr. Gold on Once Upon A Time to save the future? Or how about David Blue who played Eli Wallace the lovable, video game playing, technological genius on SGU Stargate Universe? I guess time will tell.

Keep your eyes open for a premiere date because this is one show you don’t want to miss!
