Netflix Makes History Ordering Its First Ever Pilot Titled ‘Little Sky’ – A Comedy Starring Samara Weaving

Netflix just made an announcement that they will order a pilot for the show titled Little Sky. It is slated to be the streamer’s first ever order of a dedicated pilot. According to Deadline, the order signifies a phase of experimentation for the streamer.

It has been at least ten years since Netflix first started producing original series for its streaming service. Many find it surprising that only now have they started to experiment with pilots for shows. Other companies have used this model to show a series’ potential for its proof of concept. For now, Netflix sticks with their use of “Straight-to-series” orders as they start to experiment with pilots.

For the show itself, Little Sky is a single-camera comedy which stars Samara Weaving (Scream VI, Three Buildings Outside Ebbing, Missouri). It was created by Rightor Doyle (Bonding, Barry) and he along with Weaving would serve as executive producers. Doyle will also direct the pilot for King Lulu. Dara Gordon (Bonding, Birds of Paradise) also serves as an executive producer for Anonymous Content. According to Deadline, Netflix executives were enthusiastic about the idea but wanted to make sure the tone and chemistry was right. They also reference that this is not a full embrace of pilots and away from Netflix’s straight-to-series model.

From that same article, they provide the description for this new pilot; “Penelope Paul Porter played by Weaving is determined to realize her lifelong dream of being a respected on-air news reporter. When she receives an anonymous tip that the Mayor of Little Sky is missing, she knows it’s her chance to finally prove herself. Arriving in the spooky, remote town of Little Sky, she senses she’s on to a big story – but little does she know she’s stumbled upon something much darker than she could have ever imagined.”

As of now, there are no more further details on the pilot itself. More would come out about its release date, its cast and crew, and run time later this year.

Weaving is repped by CAA, 111 Media and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Doyle is repped by Anonymous Content and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
