Netflix Greenlights ‘Twilight’ Animated Series

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Twilight is reappearing on screen through an animated series on Netflix. The streaming service, known for releasing episodes all at once, has started developing the series based on the novel Midnight Sun written by Stephanie Meyers (The Host, Beautiful Monster).

The book was released after the Twilight saga and follows the point of view of Edward Cullen, a vampire. The saga was based on Bella Swan’s perspective to show Edward’s intrigue with her.

Lionsgate Television will be producing the show. Additionally, Lionsgate launched Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

Sinead Daly (The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Reservation Road) will executively produce and adapt the novel into the animated show. Joining Daly in the executive producers’ team is Meyer and Meghan Hibbett (Down a Dark Hall, The Host) of Fickle Fish Films, Erik Feig (Step Up, Slackers) and Samir Kim Falvey (Theater Camp, Sweethearts) from Picturestart Productions and Marty Bowen (Dear John, Safe Haven) and Wyck Godfrey (Daddy Day Care, Turtles All The Way Down) from Temple Hill Entertainment.

The Midnight Sun project is the latest of Lionsgate’s attempts to branch out the lives of largest possessions and intellectual properties. Last year, the production company debuted The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the Hunger Games prequel, and an additional premiere is being planned pretraning to Suzanne Collins’ (The Hunger Games, Catching Fire) upcoming book located in the Sunrise on the Reaping. Additionally, a John Wick sequel TV series, which is a continuation of the four films, is also in the works.

Kristen Stewart (Speak, Happiest Season) and Robert Pattinson (The Batman, Harry Potter 4: The Goblet of Fire) starred in the Twilight films where Stewart plays Bella and Pattinson plays Edward. The initial cast included Ashley Greene (LOL, The Immaculate Room), Jackson Rathbone (The Last Airbender, Big Stan), Kellan Lutz (The Legends of Hercules, Tarzan), Nikki Reed (Thirteen, The O.C.), Taylor Lautner (Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Abduction) and more.
