Netflix has given an early green light for a second season of Shane Gillis’ (Saturday Night Live, Beautiful Dogs, Bupkins), scripted comedy series Tires, even before its series premiere on May 23, according to Deadline. This renewal is a testament to the streaming giant’s expanding collaboration with Gillis, a comedian who recently made headlines by performing three sold-out shows at the Netflix is a Joke Fest in Los Angeles.
Gillis, who stars in Tires, also plays multiple key roles as the show’s writer, co-creator, and executive producer. The six-episode first season revolves around Will, played by Steven Gerben (Holly And The Hot Chocolate, Gilly and Keeves The Special), an anxious and inexperienced heir to an auto repair chain. Will faces the daunting task of revitalizing his father’s business while dealing with relentless torment from his cousin and now employee, Shane, portrayed by Gillis.
Tires is the second production from Dad Sick Productions, the brainchild of Gillis and McKeever, via Deadline. Their first venture was Gillis’ stand-up special “Beautiful Dogs,” premiered in 2023. The special was a hit, landing in the Netflix Top 10 in five countries and staying in the US Top 10 for two weeks. Building on this momentum, Netflix has also commissioned a new stand-up special from Gillis, set to premiere in 2025.
According to Deadline, this early renewal of Tires underscores Netflix’s confidence in Gillis’ comedic talent and the show’s potential success. It also highlights Netflix’s commitment to fostering relationships with prominent comedians and creators, ensuring a steady stream of fresh, engaging content for its global audience. As fans eagerly await the premiere of Tires, the anticipation for its already-confirmed second season continues to build, promising more laughs and entertaining storylines.
