Netflix Eyes Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan for ‘Beef’ Season Two

According to Deadline, casting negotiations are under way for the second season of Netflix’s hit comedy-drama series. Beef, which was originally conceived as a miniseries, is returning for a second season with a cast of fresh faces.

Earlier sources, including Deadline, reported that Hollywood superstar Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home, Brokeback Mountain) and Academy Award winning actress Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables, Ocean’s 8) as well as Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, Priscilla) and Charles Melton (May December, Riverdale). Deadline now reports that Oscar Isaac (Dune, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Carey Mulligan (Maestro, Doctor Who) are now in negotiations to star in the beloved series’ second season.

This is not Isaac’s first experience finding success in limited series. Isaac starred as Jonathan Levy in the American remake of Ingmar Bergman’s 1973 miniseries Scenes from a Marriage created for American viewers by Hagai Levi (The Affair, In Treatment), a role for which he earned an Emmy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film. He has recently finished production in Martin Scorsese’s In the Hand of Dante, a miniseries starring in a dual role as Nick Tosches, the author of the source material, and the Italian poet Dante Aligheri alongside his Dune co-star Jason Momoa (Dune, Game of Thrones). He is also currently filming Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein film alongside Jacob Elordi (Priscilla, Euphoria) and Mia Goth (Maxxxine, Pearl).

Mulligan is currently riding the high of her Oscar nomination for her performance as Felicia Montealegre in Maestro, her third Academy Award nomination following her leading roles in Promising Young Woman and An Education.

Deadline reports that the second season of the limited series, which won four Emmy Awards earlier this year, will center around a new set of characters, featuring two new feuding couples. The second season of Beef currently has no set release date.
