After three seasons of adventures in the Freeridge neighborhood, a fictional area located in South Los Angeles, the popular Netflix series On My Block is coming to its final chapter with the upcoming fourth season. Netflix has released the trailer for the newest season to give us a preview, via Deadline.
The new season will pick up the story following season three, but with a two-year jump in between. The series will continue to center on relationships and interactions among the main characters: Monse (Sierra Capri), Ruby (Jason Genao), Cesar (Diego Tinoco), Jamal Turner (Brett Gray), Jasmine (Jessica Marie Garcia), and Oscar (Julio Macias).
The trailer begins with the scene where Monse and Cesar sit together and discuss their future. Two years later, the once bonded friend group has separated. Monse attends an all-female boarding school, Ruby is dating Jasmine, Jamal goes back to the prominent figure in the football team, and Cesar shaves his head and gets a tattoo on the back. The group will eventually reunite and deal with secrets from their pasts. They realize that they can never fully run away from their lives in the Freeridge neighborhood, and they have to stick together to survive. It’s like what Cesar tells Monse: “but this life – it’s my destiny. My family crest is, and will always be a gang sign.”
On My Block is co-created by Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft. Iungerich will continue to executively produce the upcoming season along with Gonzales, Haft, and Jamie Dooner. Iungerich will also serve as showrunner. Previously, Iungerich worked as writer and director for MTV’s teen comedy-drama Awkward. The show will premiere exclusively on Netflix, October 4.
