Netflix issued a statement on Friday on officially cutting ties with Kevin Spacey amid sexual harassment allegations according to The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to the streamer’s statement, MRC confirmed in a statement that Spacey has been suspended from Netflix series House of Cards.
Netflix also cancelled the Gore Vidal biopic Gore, which Spacey was set to star and produce.
A representative for Netflix explained in a statement on Friday, “Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show. We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in postproduction, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.”
Media Rights Capital issued a statement soon after Netflix saying, “While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey’s behavior on the set of House of Cards, he has been suspended, effective immediately. MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus.
The news comes days after the production of the sixth and final season of House of Cards was suspended indefinitely on Oct. 31.
Allegations against Spacey continue to increase including several House of Cards employees who claim that Spacey sexually assaulted them and spoke to CNN about their experiences.
MRC issued a statement at the time of these new allegations on Thursday.
“We are deeply troubled to learn about these new allegations that are being made to the press concerning Kevin Spacey’s interaction with members of the crew of House of Cards,” the statement from MRC said. “As the producer of the show, creating and maintaining a safe working environment for our cast and crew has always been our top priority. We have consistently reinforced the importance of employees reporting any incident without fear of retaliation and we have investigated and taken appropriate actions following any complaints.”
As of now, nothing is yet known of the future of House of Cards. Deadline reported that an insider of the series told them that nothing has been said of the series’ future.
“We’ve really been told nothing, which leads a lot of us to think it’s over,” a House of Cards insider told Deadline.
As for Kevin Spacey, allegations against him continue to mount as well as the consequences. On Thursday, he was dropped by CAA and his publicist Staci Wolfe.
