Netflix Casts Emmy Award Winner Colman Domingo in ‘The Madness’

Netflix has announced a new series order on a conspiracy thriller limited series entitled The Madness, and Emmy award winner Colman Domingo (Euphoria, Fear the Walking Dead) is set to star in it. The series has a first-look deal with Cherin Entertainment and Stephen Belber (The Laramie ProjectO.G.), via The Hollywood Reporter.

This new series from Cherin Entertainment will follow Domingo’s character in The Madness of Muncie Daniels, an expert in the media field that must fight for his innocence as well as his life after he witnesses a brutal murder deep in the Poconos woods. As he races against the clock, Muncie fights to reconnect with his estranged family – and his lost ideals in order to make it out alive.

This limited series will have eight episodes. Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series, Netflix, US and Canada, describes it as ” a fresh take on the conspiracy thriller — turning the genre on its head with its multi-layered characters, propulsive action and swift pace”, via Deadline.
Belber will serve as showrunner alongside V.J. Boyd (Justified, SWAT).  Clément Virgo (Greenleaf) is also attached to the project, and he is set to direct the first two and last two episodes as well as executive produce with Belber. Alongside Boyd and Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Jenno Topping (Catch and Release),  Kaitlin Dahill (Inhumans), Quyen Tran (Maid) and Jessica Lowrey (Perry Mason) are joining the production team.
Domingo won his first Emmy award for best supporting actor for HBO’s Euphoria. Alongside his powerful performance in Euphoria, he was a Film Independent Spirit, NAACP, SAG as well as a Critics Choice Award nominee for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Domingo also stars in Rustin, a Netflix film about Bayard Rustin, an openly-gay man that worked closely with Martin Luther King Jr. that dedicated his life to the fight for racial equality, human rights and worldwide democracy during the civil-rights movement.  Rustin will be available for streaming on Netflix this year.
