According to Deadline, Netflix has just cast several more actors for the upcoming limited series, American Primeval. Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets), Betty Gilpin (The Hunt, The Tomorrow War), and Shae Whigham (The Gray Man, Gaslit) will be joining previously announced cast members Taylor Kitsch (The Terminal List), Jai Courtney (Kaleidoscope), Joe Tippett (Spirited), Kyle Davis (The Rookie), Nick Hargrove (Devotion), Derek Hinkey (Walker: Independence), Saura Lightfoot Leon (Life After Life), Preston Mota (Asteroid City), and Shawnee Pourier (Stranger Things).
As written by Deadline, American Primeval is described as a six-episode miniseries which depicts the unembellished and adventurous exploration of the birth of the American West. The series will feature violent clashes of culture, religion, and community as men and women from all walks of life fight tooth and nail for a land they truly believe is their destiny.
The series comes from executive producers and creators Pete Berg (The Leftovers, Deepwater Horizon), Eric Newman (True Story, Spiderhead), and Mark L. Smith (Overlord, The Revenant). Berg and Newman will be co-directing American Primeval with Smith writing all of the episodes.
According to Deadline, Gilpin will play Sara Rowell, a practical and graceful woman seeking a guide across the dangerous Western frontier for and her young son, Devin, who will be portrayed by Mota. DeHaan will portray Jacob Pratt, a law-abiding Mormon leading his family across the frontier to join their fellow Mormon settlers in Utah, while Whigham will play Jim Bridger, a jaded realist with a heart of gold who is in charge of Fort Bridger, a popular stopping point for settlers and trappers seeking to venture out into the untamed wilds of Western America.
They are joined by Kitsch, who leads the series as Isaac, a traumatized man plagued with demons of the past who is trying to find a reason for living in this brutal and unforgiving new world. For more information on Kitsch’s casting, check out our article here.
