Netflix Cast Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song And Drew Tarver For Mindy Kaling’s Basketball Series

According to Deadline, Scott MacArthur (The Mick, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie), Brenda Song (The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Stuck in the Suburbs) and Drew Tarver (Bajillion Dollar Propertie$, The Other Two) have been cast in Mindy Kaling’s (The OfficeThe Mindy Project) Netflix basketball series. They join Kate Hudson (Almost Famous, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery) who was casted as the lead character, Isla Gordon.

Per the Netflix logline, “Isla (Hudson), the only sister in a family of brothers, is ambitious and often overlooked. But when her brother is forced to resign from his position as president of the Los Angeles Waves, she’s appointed in his place. Now that she’s stepping up into the family business, she’s going to have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job. Over the course of the series, she sets out to show that she was the right choice for the job — especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”

According to Deadline, MacArthur and Tarver have been cast as Gordon’s two brothers, Ness and Sandy Gordon respectively. Sandy has been described as the smartest guy in the room who is often alienated by his family and wants to join the family business. Ness is a former player and former general manager of the Los Angeles Waves who is constantly striving to make up for his poor professional career as a player with a remarkable front office tenure.

Song will portray Ali Lee who is the Chief of Staff of the Waves and Isla’s former college roommate. She understands the Gordon family’s tendencies and knows how to work around their drama.

According to Deadline, the series will have ten episodes which are written and executive produced by Ike Barinholtz (MADtv, Eastbound & Down), Kaling and David Stassen (Central Intelligence, History of the World: Part II). Stassen will be the series showrunner. Jeanie Buss (Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers, WOW: Women of Wrestling), Hudson, Howard Klein (Space Force, Parks and Recreation) and Linda Rambis (Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers) will also serve as executive producers for the series. The show is produced by Kaling International in partnership with Warner Bros. Television.

MacArthur has recently appeared in No Hard Feelings alongside Jennifer Lawrence (The HungeGames, Silver Linings Playbook), Andrew Barth Feldman (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, A Tourist’s Guide to Love) and Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, WarGames).
