Another Netflix sitcom is finished after one season. According to Deadline, Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! starring Jamie Foxx (Bait, Collateral) will not be renewed by the streaming service. The eight-episode season featured Foxx as a father who gains full custody of his teenage daughter after her mother passes. The series was based on Foxx’s own relationship with his daughter, Corrine Foxx (Safety, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged).
Deadline reports the series featured Kyla-Drew (Prisoners, Peppermint) as Foxx’s daughter who moves permanently to live with her dad in Atlanta. Centering on the duo’s evolving relationship, the supporting cast included In Living Color alum David Alan Grier (The Carmichael Show, The Cool Kids), Porscha Coleman (You Can’t Fight Christmas, The Parkers), and Jonathan Kite (2 Broke Girls, The Suite Life on Deck).
Debuting on April 14, the series was originally helmed by showrunner Jim Patterson (Two and a Half Men, B Positive), according to Deadline. Patterson was also responsible for other Netflix sitcoms including 90s reboot Fuller House and Ashton Kutcher’s (Dude, Where’s My Car, That 70s Show) The Ranch. However, Patterson departed the series prior to production and was replaced by Bentley Kyle Evans (Family Time, Love That Girl!). Evans directed most of the episodes along with Ken Whittingham (Gilmore Girls, American Housewife).
According to Deadline, Foxx decided not to continue the show which he produced along with Alex Avant (The Black Godfather, Gallow Walkers). While this series has ended, Foxx’s partnership with Netflix will continue. Following the success of the hit feature, Project Power, Foxx is attached to two other original films for the platform. The first is the sci-fi comedy, They Cloned Tyrone, starring John Boyega (Detroit, Small Axe) and Teyonah Parris (Candyman, WandaVision). The second film, Day Shift, sees Foxx star as a meager pool custodian who moonlights as a vampire hunter.
