According to Screenrant, the Television adaptation of The Talisman has just been canceled. In March of 2021 The Talisman was first announced from the creators of Stranger Things, The Duff Brothers as the executive producers based off the novel written Stephen King (A Very Tight Place, Blaze). Screenrant reported that in 1984, the novel made the New York Times bestseller list after it was published.
Matt Duffer (Vessel, FilmToons Logic)shared a statement to the media, “Sadly, Talisman is not longer at Netflix, so we’re not involved. I think it was probably naive of us to think we could break The Talisman.” Duffer continues to explain, “When I interned, when I was really, you know, back in college at Kennedy Marshall, I remember reading, I think it was movie script for Talisman. So it’s been in development forever, so I’m sorry that we were not the ones to breathe curse. It will be will be whoever does it and cracks it.”
The adaptation was going to be produced by Curtis Gwinn (Narcos, The Leftovers), also serving as the showrunner. Steven Spielberg’s (Hamnet, the Fabelmans)Ambling Television and Paramount Television Studios was also going to be named as a producer. The last few years there has been many changes in the entertainment industry that has caused some ups and downs. Both Netflix and Paramount were in a bidding war to acquire Warner Bros Discovery, Netflix won that bid.
Screenrant explained that the adaptation, The Talisman is about a 12 year old boy on a journey to find a cure for his dying mother. Along his journey takes him to different territories which ties into Kings’s Dark Tower. Which is a sequel published in 2001, continuing Jacks story in his adult years.
Screenrant reported that the works of King has been successful and The Talisman will most likely continue to be just as successful as some his other adaptations.
