Sense8 is coming just in time to be downloaded offline for the holidays.
According to Deadline, Netflix has announced that Sense8: A Christmas Special will premiere globally on Friday, December 23rd and that the 10-episode season 2 of the sci-fi series will premiere on Friday, May 5th.
Details for the two-hour Sense8 Christmas special are vague, but so far what is known is that it is set to follow the series’ central characters as they continue to make deeper connections and uncover new secrets. Plot details around season 2 of the Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski created series are just as vague. It will continue from where season one left off, with the main characters on the run from Whispers and forced to understand themselves, confronting their identity.
Sense8 stars Toby Onwumere, Tina Desai, Liguel Angel Silvestre, Jamie Clayton, Tuppence Middleton, Donna Bae, Brian J. Smith, Max Riemelt, Freema Agyeman, Daryl Hannah, and Terrence Mann.
Though Sense8 was created by both Wachowskis and Straczynski, Buzzfeed reported earlier this year that Lilly Wachowski will not be working on season 2 of the series, leaving Lana to take over for season 2 as the sole director. The series’ first season debuted on Netflix in 2015, and went on to earn a nomination for an oddball Emmy, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music for Johnny Klimek and Tom Tykwer.
Sense8 is executive produced by the Wachowskis, Straczynski, and Grant Hill.
