Netflix Announces Another Price Hike After Successful Quarter

After a significant growth in subcribers, Netflix has announced another increase in subscription prices. According to Deadline, each tier will see rise from the lowest ad-tier version, up to the Premium plan. Last year, the company discussed plans to increase pricing as well as ridding of its Basic subscription.

Deadline reports members who subscribe to the platfrom’s tier with ads will see an increase to $7.99. The Standard plan will shift two dollars from $15.49 to $17.99. And the premier Premium plan, which extends the number of screens and allows 4K downloads, is rising to $24.99. Fortuantely, there will be no increase to the charge to add another subscriber to one’s plan.

The company’s last significant price increase came in October of 2023, with the now-defunct Basic plan and Premium tier seeing an increase of three dollars each.

“As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally
ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix,” the platform said in a statement to its shareholders via Deadline. “To that end, we are adjusting prices today across most plans in the US, Canada, Portugal and Argentina (which was already factored into the 2025 guidance we provided in October 2024).”

Some of that programming could be the recent addition of regularly scheduled live content, like WWE’s Monday Night Raw and the successful sports telecasts with the NFL.

According to Deadline, the company gained 19 million additional subscribers, ending 2024 with record stats. Despite consumers preoccupation with inflation, many remain subscribed with only a small amount of cancellations. The company stays buoyed as returning and new subscribers boost profits with the new prices.

Joining this news was the announcement of Netflix launching a restaurant in Sin City itself. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix Bites will showcase food items inspired by some of the platform’s biggest franchises. A cuisine pop-up appeared in Los Angeles for a limited time back in 2023. The company states this endeavor will be for a longer period. Netflix Bites — said to feature Bridgerton-inspired tea and Stranger Things chicken and waffles — is set to open on February 20.
