A limited series coming to the broadcast network, NBC, has found its director. Deadline reports Scott Winant is set to helm the first two episodes of The Thing About Pam. The Breaking Bad and Thirtysomething director will also serve as an executive producer for the series.
According to Deadline, Renée Zellweger (Judy, What/If) will star in the series that will follow the peculiar events behind the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria. Zellweger will play Pam Hupp, the woman at the center of the murder mystery in which Faria’s husband, Russ, was first charged and convicted. His conviction was later overturned.
In addition to Zellweger, Deadline reports the cast will include Gideon Adlon (Blockers, The Craft: Legacy), Judy Greer (Kidding, Ant-Man), Josh Duhamel (Transformers, Jupiter’s Legacy), Katy Mixon (American Housewife, Eastbound & Down), Sean Bridges (Jug Face, Room), Glenn Fleshler (Barry, Werewolves Within), Mac Brandt (Hammer of the Gods, Archenemy), and Suanne Spoke (Wild Prarie Rose, Growing Up Brady).
According to Deadline, the series is being helmed by Jenny Klein (Sacred Lies), who will also executive produce along with Winant, Zellweger’s Big Picture Co., Jason Blum’s (Get Out, Welcome to Blumhouse) Blumhouse TV, and NBC News Studios. Additional executive producers include Jessica Borsiczky (The Promotion, Asylum). Carmella Casinelli (Walt Before Mickey, The Peanut Butter Falcon), Liz Cole (Memory Box: Echoes of 9/11, Dateline: Motive for Murder), Jeremy Gold (Sharp Objects, Black Box), Mary Margaret Kunze (The Gilded Age, Daredevil), Chris McCumber (Tattered Hearts, American Refugee), and Noah Oppenheim (Jackie, The Maze Runner).
NBC News reported this July that Hupp was being charged with the stabbing death of Faria. Prosecutors alleged Hupp tracked Faria’s movements on December 27, 2011, finally picking Faria up from her chemotherapy treatment. Hupp claims she dropped Faria off at home, admitting she was the last person to see her friend alive. But the case against Hupp claims she brought Faria home, obviously weakened from her cancer treatment, and stabbed her repeatedly. They allege Hupp then staged the crime scene to look like a domestic assault gone awry.
The Thing About Pam will begin production in New Orleans this week, via Deadline. Filming had been delayed due to the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.
