Oh my God, it’s happening! Everybody, stay calm, stay calm! A brand-new and highly anticipated comedy series is coming to The Office universe, and it’s finally wrangled up with its first two stars! According to Deadline, the prospective series created by Michael Koman (Saturday Night Live) and The Office creator Greg Daniels (King of the Hill) has pinned Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) and Domhnall Gleeson (About Time) to the cast.
As per Deadline, exact details surrounding the duo’s roles have not been disclosed. Universal Television, the studio that will produce The Office’s new iteration, has not yet commented more on the series besides verifying that it is still in development.
In one of our recent reports, Daniels started a writing/development room to gather ideas for a new iteration of the Emmy-winning sitcom The Office.
Deadline notes that the new series is not a spinoff of The Office; instead, it will take place in a new office setting, accompanying an all-new cast. However, it will still take place within the same universe as the comedy led by Steve Carrell (The 40-Year-Old Virgin).
The Office is a mockumentary series based in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It premiered on NBC in 2005 and chronicled the comical lives and occurrences of the fictional office staff of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.
Deadline also notes that Daniel hinted that the new iteration may chronicle crew making a documentary about a different topic. Additionally, if the series is greenlit further, Deadline disclosed that Koman would be a co-creator alongside Daniels.
Among TV credits for Impacciatore include her portrayal in The White Lotus’s second season as a hotel manager named Valentina, which led her to obtain an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Additionally, she was included in the cast’s win for the SAG Award for Best Drama Series Ensemble.
Impacciatore’s future TV work includes guest-starring in the anticipated second season of the hit comedy series Call Me Agent for Sky, an Italian-language adaptation of a popular French series. MGMT, Gianni Chiffi and Gersh represent Impacciatore.
Perhaps hinting at his role in the new The Office iteration, Gleeson most recently started working with two original stars of the NBC hit. He recently starred alongside Carrell in the limited series The Patient for FX and is expected to star alongside another The Office OG, John Krasinski (A Quiet Place), Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes) and Natalie Portman (Black Swan) in Fountain of Youth, a feature film by Apple.
Gleeson’s other TV credits include co-starring in White House Plumbers, a limited series by David Mandel (Seinfeld) for HBO, where he portrayed John Dean alongside Justin Theroux (American Psycho) and Woody Harrelson (Zombieland).
Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christoper, Paradigm and The Agency represented Gleeson.
