NBC has renewed the hit freshman series Quantum Leap. The news was announced on Monday, December 12, 2022. Quantum Leap‘s pilot is currently up to a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and 10.8 million viewers across linear, digital, and streaming platforms, according to Nielsen and NBC via Deadline. This reboot series is the best-ever drama launch on Peacock and is the #2 new broadcast show of the season in the 19-49 demo.
“We’re leaping into a second season thanks to the incredible work by our cast, producers, writers and everyone who has played a role in giving this iconic NBC series a new life,” exclaimed Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, according to NBC.
Per the first season’s logline, “it’s been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.”
The reboot features the exploits of Dr. Ben Song, played by Raymond Lee (Top Gun: Maverick, Here and Now), the top-secret government project’s new lead physicist. The accelerator has now been upgraded with a new program code. As the doctor makes an unsanctioned jump into the past, similar to what happened to Dr. Beckett, he awakes in a different time and loses some of his memory. After realizing he is lost in the past, Ben temporarily takes over other people’s lives and makes things right in their lives while changing history, according to Collider.
“As we continue to bring audiences to our must-watch dramas, it’s gratifying to know Quantum Leap will have a prominent place next season both on our NBC schedule and next day on Peacock,” added Katz.
There were thirteen episodes initially organized for the first season that will be broken into two parts with a hiatus in between. According to Collider, in October, NBC organized six more episodes, bringing the total number of episodes for the first season to 19.
Along with Lee, starring Quantum Leap stars Caitlin Bassett (V Is for Vodka, Burn Motherfucker, Burn), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters, The Crow), Nanrisa Lee (Bosch, Hansel vs. Gretel), and Mason Alexander Park (Cowboy Bebop, The Sandman).
Tune in to Quantum Leap on NBC Mondays at 10/9c. starting January 2, 2023, and the next day on Peacock.
