Deadline reports that NBC has revealed a first look at upcoming comedy series Extended Family. The trailer shows the cast talking about what it was like working with each other on the sitcom. Check out the first look below!
Extended Family will debut on NBC on Tuesday, January 2. The sitcom stars Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men, Pretty in Pink) as Jim, Abigail Spencer (How I Met Your Mother, Grey’s Anatomy) as Julia, Donald Faison (Scrubs, the Exes) as Trey, Finn Sweeney (American Crime Story, Barry) as Jimmy Jr., and Sofia Capanna (Bucktown, Extended Family) as Grace.
It will follow Cryer’s Jim and Spencer’s Julia while the two raise their kids after an amicable divorce. The two raise the children by taking turns on who gets to stay with the kids while the children stay in the family home. Faison’s Trey enters the mix and complicates the situation by capturing the heart of Julia.
The series recently restarted production on November 13th after the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA work stoppage that had been ongoing from May until November. The WGA was on strike from May 2 to September 27 and the SAG-AFTRA strike lasted from July 14 to November 9.
In the first look at Extended Family, Spencer tells viewers that she has long admired Cryer and has really enjoyed her experience shooting scenes with him. Faison expressed similar excitement about working with Cryer, describing it as “as dream come true.”
The featurette also also includes various short clips from the series that gives the audience a taste of what the show will be like.
The series is created by Mike O’Malley (The Good Place, Glee), who also serves as showrunner. O’Malley will executive produce with Wyc Grousbeck (Extended Family, 60 Minutes Sports), Victor Levin (Mad About You, Destination Wedding), James Widdoes (Charles in Charge, The Goldbergs), Emilia Fazzalari (Extended Family), George Geyer (The Prodigal Son, Extended Family), Victoria Morrow (Weeds, Foundation), Tom Werner (That 90’s Show, The Conners), and Cryer.
