According to Deadline, stand up comedian Chris Estrada (5th Of July, Sixteen Thousand Dollars) will co-write, executive produce, and star in the new NBC comedy series, Forklift, along with co-producers Kent Alterman (Little Children, Mr. Woodcock) and Sarah Babineau (Hello, My Name is Doris, She’s Out Of My League).
According to Deadline, Estrada first crossed paths with Alterman and Babineau while doing standup specials at Comedy Central; the duo were executives behind the scenes. Forklift will be filmed with a single camera and is about a forklift driver (Estrada) who gets promoted to warehouse supervisor. He then finds that his upward mobility in the company comes with a cost when his coworkers and friends start to view him differently.
Deadline states Estrada is joined by writer Rick Cisario (Weird Time, Rental), who will also executive produce the series. Alterman and Babineu executive produce through their Good Walk banner along with Jordan Tilzer (Godfrey: Black by Accident). The series is produced under Universal Television.
Estrada was still on the comedy circuit and working his warehouse job when Hulu developed his first series, This Fool. Premiering in 2022, the series followed Estrada’s Julio, a mild-mannered middle-aged man living with his mother and ex-con cousin in South L.A. While working at a coffee shop that employs released convicts, Julio attempts to find balance in his working-class neighborhood, where street cred reigns. The series ran for two seasons.
Deadline also mentions Cisario, repped by Sloss Eckhouse Dasti Haynes, penned the upcoming feature, Old Pals, with Brian Cox (Moral Fiber, Wittgensein’s Poker), Henry Wrinkler (Happy Days, Sandy Wexler), Emma Roberts (Space Cadet, Maybe I Do) and Evan Rachel Wood (Frozen II, Flavors of youth). His screenplay, Supported, is on the 2024 Blacklist’s Disability list.
Along with Forklift, Deadline reports Good Walk has multiple projects in the works. In addition to project sales at other studios, they have a first-look deal with FX.
