Reversing previously stated comments from NBC executives, NBCUniversal currently does not have plans to reboot The Office according to Comicbook.com. NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, former head Bonnie Hammer (Presents: Taken) originally stated bringing the show back in some form was anticipated. However due to her switch in positions, now overseeing production for NBC Universal, Hammer has shifted responsibilities within the company that holds no overlap with present overseers of the streaming service.
Bill McGoldrick, NBCUniversal original content head, explained to Deadline that there has been no discussion for a reboot of the series on Peacock. McGoldrick stated, “Because it does not launch until January, we have not talked specifically about The Office reboots for Peacock; we’ve talked about things we can do to support The Office once it gets to our service but a reboot has not come up specifically for Peacock.”
NBC Universal last year bought the rights to The Office for $500+ million, taking it away from Netflix where the series starring Steve Carell (Little Miss Sunshine) had previously remained. Fans allegedly hope that The Office will take a route similar to Friends, which is scheduled to release reunion special on HBO Max. 30 Rock is additionally offering a reunion episode. Are you ready to Rock again? No current word on The Office‘s next steps are not preventing in a potential reunion series or one-shot. McGoldrick adds via Deadline, “Lots of those ideas have been bandied about with people internally and with (developer) Greg Daniels (The Simpsons) and people associated with the show. As you can imagine, there are lots of creative ideas, we haven’t landed at any one right now.”
