Deadline reported Friday that the NBC drama, Ordinary Joe, has been canceled after just one season. The show was created by Russel Friend (House), Garrett Lerner (Glee), and Matt Reeves (Let Me In) and starred James Wolk (Mad Men), Natalie Martinez (End Of Watch), Elizabeth Lail (Once Upon A Time), and Charlie Barnett (Men In Black 3).
The cancellation of the series comes after the show ranked dead last in ratings among NBC’s 10 dramas airing this season, according to Deadline.
Right before what is now Ordinary Joe’s series finale, Friend commented on the series’ potential cancellation in January to TVLine, where he sounded hopeful for a renewal due to the show landing on Hulu and Peacock.
“We’re waiting to hear, obviously, from the network [and] tying to figure out, basically, how we’re doing on streaming,” Friend said. “Our hope is to get the word out that come Monday (January 24th), all 13 episodes of the show will be available on Hulu and Peacock. We’re really hoping that people discover the show streaming-wise. It’s such an bingeable show. So we’re really hoping that once once all 13 episodes are up, that people who like to binge their shows could now jump in and really get hooked. So hopefully if that happens, that would obviously help us with a Season 2.”
Friend also told TVLine at the time that the show was “definitely on the bubble” for a renewal.
The series also featured multiple appearances from John Gluck (Rumble), David Warshofsky (Running Scared), Anne Ramsey (Planet Of The Apes), Brandon Sutton (The Resident), Jack Coleman (The Office), Joe Carroll (Chicago Fire), Gabrielle Byndloss (The Falcon And The Winter Soldier), Christine Adams (Batman Begins), Sarah Charipar (Contagion), and Adam Rodriguez (Magic Mike).
Ordinary Joe was a co-production of 20th Television, Universal Television, 6th & Idaho, and 3 Arts.
Despite the cancellation, the series is still available to stream on Hulu and Peacock.
