NBC Announces Jay Leno’s Last Day

It is official: after 22 years, Jay Leno’s last day behind the desk at the Tonight Show will be February 6, 2014.

The Winter Olympics commence February 7; Jimmy Fallon will take over for Leno starting February 24. In turn, Seth Meyers will take Fallon’s place at Late Night. There has been no indication whether Meyers will pull double duty with both the talk show and Saturday Night Live, however.

The cast and crew of the Tonight Show will be paid through the end of September 2014 in accordance with Leno’s contract, Deadline reports.

NBC President Robert Greenblatt expressed his hope that Leno would still be a presence at the network even once his run on the Tonight Show comes to an end. “Nothing would make us happier,” he told TV critics last week. “We’re really hoping to do that, post February.”
