Created by James Dormer (Strike Back, Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands), Nautilus is an upcoming adventure series that was originally set to premiere on Disney+. However, Disney+ chose to not proceed with the series in August. According to Deadline, the series has been picked up by AMC and will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2024.
As Deadline notes, the EVP of AMC Studios at AMC Networks, Ben Davis, spoke about this decision. He stated, “Nautilus is a big, sweeping drama that is sure to appeal to fans of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe and other buzzy and fan-forward series like Orphan Black: Echoes.“
Davis continued, “We are looking forward to bringing it to AMC+ and AMC as a special television event next year.”
According to the official press release by AMC Networks, Dormer stated, “I am hugely excited that the efforts of everyone involved in the making of the show will be seen on such a prestigious network.”
The series Nautilus is based on the novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by French author Jules Verne (A Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Mysterious Island). Inspired by the events within the novel, the upcoming ten-episode series revolves around Captain Nemo, played by Shazad Latif (What’s Love Got to Do with It?, Toast of London), and his crew. Created by Captain Nemo, he and his crew inhabit the Nautilus, which is a ship that stays underneath the water.
The series also stars Georgia Flood (Wentworth, Blacklight) as Humility Lucas, Thierry Frémont (Liaison, Allied) as Gustave Benoit, Jacob Collins-Levy (The Liberator, The White Princess) as Captain Youngblood, and many more.
Executive producers of the series include Dormer, Johanna Devereaux (Wedding Season, War of the Worlds), Chris Loveall (Please Like Me, Desperate Housewives), Colleen Woodcock (The Duchess, The Iron Lady), and Daisy Gilbert (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris).
Fans of Verne’s story can look forward to seeing Captain Nemo and his innovative ship come to life in AMC’s Nautilus.
