In addition to classic Disney movies such as Turner & Hooch being transformed into TV series, the film National Treasure is in the works for a TV series according to Deadline. Jerry Bruckheimer is behind this development and said to Collider, “We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”
Jerry Bruckheimer is known for producing the National Treasure franchise, along with for many other genres of drama, action, and science fiction film and television. Some examples of which are Pirates of the Caribbean, Top Gun, Remember the Titans along with his work on the National Treasure movies. The producer noted that along with the television series, National Treasure 3 is also in its scripting process, with writer Chris Bremner (The Wedding Ringer) attached to the project.
The announced Disney+ series will be taking on a different perspective of the narrative built by the film franchise, as main actor Nicholas Cage will not be the focus. “Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept [as the film] but a young cast,” Bruckheimer told Collider.
Recently, Disney is revisiting many of their movies for potential spin-off series, as they have many Star Wars projects in the works, such as the second season of The Mandalorian, set to be released in fall 2020, along with new feature film directed by Waititi. Disney+ also plans to release a The Beauty and The Beast prequel, which the release date for is still unknown.
Currently there are no attached actors to the National Treasure series project, along with no announcements of a premiere date.
