The now iconic Astrophysicist and TV personality Neil deGrasse Tyson has fallen underneath scrutiny amidst two more women’s allegations of the Cosmos’ host inappropriate sexual misconduct. These new allegations have ignited an investigation by that of the networks and the producers behind the Emmy-winning science-riddled affair. In a statement to Deadline.com, The producers stated: “The credo at the heart of Cosmos is to follow the evidence wherever it leads. The producers of Cosmos can do no less in this situation. We are committed to a thorough investigation of this matter and to act accordingly as soon as it is concluded.”
The acclaim of the 2014 modern-day revival of the classic Carl Sagan docuseries led to Fox and National Geographic’s ordering of a second installment with Tyson returning as the host, which is slated to premiere March 3rd. In a follow-up statement to Deadline.com, the two networks said: “We have only just become aware of the recent allegations regarding Neil deGrasse Tyson. We take these matters very seriously and we are reviewing the recent reports.”
The actions follow a report by David McAfee that detailed Dr. Katelyn N. Allers’ claim that Tyson groped her at an after-party following a meeting of the American Astronomical Society in 2009. The Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Bucknell University was not alone in her claim, standing alongside Tyson’s former assistant Ashley Watson who reported that she was forced to quit her job over his inappropriate sexual advances. The two women join that of the year-old claim made by musician Tchiya Amet who accused Tyson of raping her while both were grad students. After three allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him and an on-going investigation by National Geographic and Fox Broadcasting Company was announced, Cosmos host Neil deGrasse Tyson has broken his silence. While he apologized for making one woman feel uncomfortable, he denied Amet’s allegation that he drugged and raped her while they were in graduate school together.
