A recent wave of chatter regarding on a potential X-Men vs. Avengers crossover have been flooding the internet, ahead of the former group’s reintroduction back into the MCU. According to Screenrant, in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday will showcases fan favorite mutants of the Fox’s X-Men universe returning, with such examples being Cyclops, played by James Marsden (Sonic the Hedgehog, Hairspray) and Rebecca Romijn (The Librarian, The Suicide Squad) as Mystique. Reported by Screenrant, X-Men ’97’s director, Jake Castorena (Twilight of the Gods, Star Trek: Prodigy) expressed in an interview with Comicbook about the possibility of working on the crossover stating, “I would love to do…Brad (Winderbaum) don’t hate me… But I would love if we could ever build an X-Men versus Avengers crossover. I think that would just…I think as fans, we all want that.” Castorena’s statement also hints that, while there is currently no concrete evidence indicating exactly when the crossover will take place, plans are clearly being discussed behind the scenes, giving fans plenty of reason to remain optimistic about its eventual arrival.
Stated by Screenrant, the X-Men franchise is at the forefront of Marvel Studios’ expansion plans. The second season is set to conclude with its finale on Wednesday, August 12, while two additional seasons are already in development. Beyond the animated series, Marvel is also moving forward with its untitled X-Men reboot, which will be directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts, Paper Towns), alongsidewith Joanna Calo (The Bear, BoJack Horseman) and Lee Sung Jin (Mothman, Office). The film has also confirmed its first major casting, with Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, The Babysitter) set to portray Emma Frost.
