Streaming services have dominated the Emmy’s in recent years, the biggest names being Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and Apple. Though these have been the only winners at the award show, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it is predicted that their other fellow streaming services are on the rise for this next awards season.
Disney+ is a streaming service who needs no introduction. With its previous nominations for The Mandalorian and WandaVision, the streamer could be up for some more recognition and even quite possibly, some wins. With the new series American Born Chinese, which has Oscar Award winners Michelle Yeoh (Everything, Everywhere, All at Once) and Ke Huy Quan (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) as major cast actors, and A Small Light from National Geographic, Disney+ has a strong lineup for the Emmy’s.
Max, previously known as HBO Max, has had great success from its comedy series Hacks, which took home acclaim last Emmy season, and has more great contenders in the lineup including Love & Death, a limited series under the true-crime genre created by David E. Kelley (Boston Legal). The Last Movie Stars created by Ethan Hawke (The Black Phone) is another eligible nominee which tells the story of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward in a six-part biography. Also, falling under the Warner Bros. Discovery category that Max has are shows such as the series Velma.
Paramount+ has both Tulsa King and 1923, part of the Yellowstone franchise, which was created and produced by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone). The shows brought on high end actors such as Helen Mirren (The Queen), Sylvester Stallone (Rocky), and Harrison Ford (Raiders of the Lost Ark) to the projects.
The Roku Channel has also stirred up quite some buzz with their recent projects including Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, that won a best TV movie recognition at the Critics Choice Award and it is nominated for an Emmy in the same category.
